Dr Rhian Davies is an alumna of Bangor and Aberystwyth universities and of Jesus College, Oxford. She is a music historian who has been Artistic Director of the acclaimed Gregynog Festival since 2006. She is a leading advocate of Wales’ musical heritage, working to promote Welsh culture internationally whilst showcasing global talent in Wales. Her programming, publications, and documentaries have restored several composers to the repertoire; her pictorial biography of composer and pianist Morfydd Owen, Never So Pure a Sight, inspires performances worldwide, notably Nocturne for orchestra at the BBC Proms. She is co-author, with Peter Lord, of the book The Art of Music: Branding the Welsh Nation, and was awarded an Honorary Fellowship for services to music by Bangor University in 2019.
